Reasons to Always Head to a Body Shop After an Accident

Updated: Jan 13, 2020

If you are like most Americans, you spend hours in your car every week going to and from family events, work, or school. In all of those hours, you are bound to experience a collision with another driver or even with an object such as a pole or curb. Even if you are able to easily drive off after an accident and there is no visible damage on the outside of the vehicle, it’s always a good idea to visit an auto body shop to have the vehicle evaluated. Below we are going to look at some of the reasons why you will always want to get your vehicle checked after any type of collision.

To Identify Hidden Damage

Even a low-speed accident can result in serious damage to your vehicle. After a collision, you are sure to do a quick visual inspection of the vehicle to identify any dings, scratches or dents. What you are not able to see is the underside of the car and the internal frame that if damaged will inhibit how safe the vehicle will be during a more serious accident. In addition to the safety of the vehicle being affected, the internal frame supports the complex inner workings that make your vehicle comfortable and easy to drive such as the engine, transmission and climate control systems. An inspection done at an auto body shop soon after the accident will be able to tell you everything you need to know about the damage caused and how quickly it can be repaired.

To Identify The Potential For Rust

If you drive a car where the aesthetics are not as important to you, or you treat your vehicle with care and have it washed and waxed on a consistent basis, there are always going to be dents and scratches that will need to be taken care of in a timely manner. Time is an important factor for scratches and dings because they affect the finish of your car, and if left unchecked they can lead to rust. Rust is not an immediate issue, but depending on where you live it can move quickly and cause holes in the body or affect other more important parts of the vehicle. Take your car to an auto body shop even if the scratch or ding seems minor because they will be able to repair it properly and reduce the spread of rust.

To Maintain A High Resale Value

Body damage or internal damage to any vehicle is going to seriously affect the resale value. The benefit of taking your car to an auto body shop after an accident is twofold, the first benefit being that you will be able to repair the damage immediately and continue driving the vehicle, and the second is that when you go to resell the vehicle the prospective owner will be able to see that you took initiative and repaired the damage. It’s also important to mention that after an accident you should discuss your options with your insurance company, as most repairs are either partly or entirely covered by insurance.

If you have been in a car accident, no matter how minor, come see us and we can inspect it to make sure there isn't any damage that you might not be able to see with the naked eye.
